What an exciting week was this week so far considering the action that took place the past 2 days in the UEFA Champions League. Here are some of the latest news I have come across today that is going around in the soccer world. Feel free to share your thoughts on the following topics in the comments section below.

  • Chelsea Midfielder ‘Michael Essien’ will miss 1 month of action
  • Carlos Vela sign’s new Arsenal deal
  • U.S International Starter ‘Landon Donovan’ heading to Everton on Loan Deal.

=====================================================================================================================

  • Chelsea Midfielder ‘Michael Essien’ is expected to miss up to 4 weeks of action as he ended up tearing his hamstring after scoring tying goal against APOEL in the final game of the Champions League match on Wednesday. The news is devasting for his National team Ghana as he might have to miss matches in part of Ghana’s ‘African Nations Cup’. Essien has already had a cat scan which confirmed that he will be out of action for a month, Chelsea spokesman went on to say the following :
  • “Michael Essien underwent an examination on the injury he suffered in last night’s Champions League game. Results of scans show a tear in his right hamstring. Essien is expected to be out for three to four weeks.”

  • Arsenal striker ‘Carlos Vela’ has signed a new deal with the club that will see him stay with them for a long time as it has been declared as a long-term contract. Coming up through the ranks from his former club ‘Deportivo Guadalajara’, Vela made a name for himself with Arsenal when he was able to net a hat-trick in a Carling Cup match against Sheffield United back in 2008 at the Emirates stadium. Only 20-years old, Vela will have to be viewed as maybe the future of the club as he continues to train and improve his performance which would also be great when he plays for National Team ‘Mexico’. Arsenal manager ‘Arsene Wenger’ is excited with Vela agreeing to the long-term contract and went on to state the following :

“We’re delighted that Carlos Vela has signed a new long-term contract with the club. Carlos is a fantastic talent and we have already seen glimpses of this during his performances. Let’s remember, he is still only 20 years-old, so there is still a huge amount to come from this boy. We have invested a lot of time in Carlos, as we put him in Spain for two years to get some good experience. Now he’s back with us, we’re working hard with him every day and he is a very exciting player. We’re looking forward to seeing Carlos score many goals in an Arsenal shirt for a long time to come.”

Vela also shared some words and said the following :

“I’m very happy to sign a new contract and I’m very excited to be spending more years with Arsenal Football Club. I just want to work hard and help this great club win trophies. I want to stay here for a long time and it’s a great responsibility. I will keep working hard to show the boss and all the fans why I’m here.”

  • With all the rumors surrounding the Landon Donovan news of going to Everton on a loan-deal that will see him go to the EPL club till the start of the L.A Galaxy’s start of the MLS season, many of the U.S International Team supporters were anxious to see if Everton will pull the trigger for Donovan can go to Everton and improve his game and partner up with U.S teammate ‘Tim Howard’. Just confirmed by various resources, it seems that the move to see L.D go to Everton has been officially finalized and will join Everton on January 1st., when the transfer window opens.

The news is great for both U.S supporters and also Everton supporters because not only will Donovan be able to improve his game with the club, Everton are in sure need of a player of Donovan’s  caliber as they seem to have a difficult time finding the net this year, something that Donovan will definitely be able to have a helping hand in. Also, with Everton schedule looking to be a tough one during Donovan’s stay with them facing teams like ‘Chelsea’, ‘Manchester United’ & ‘Arsenal’, this will defintly be challenge for Donovan but one that he should take advantage as some of these teams will be fielding players that will be looking to start for England in USA’s first World Cup match when the 2 teams square off.
