Some surprising results occurred yesterday in the UEFA Champions League as some teams that were expected to come out victorious were absolutely shredded. For instance, Juventus was one team that was expected to come out with a win yesterday having won their previous match against Inter Milan and the victory would have thought to gave them the confidence to actually defeat Bayern Munchen or at least come out with a draw for they can advance, but they were actually destroyed 4-1 by the Bundesliga club losing their hopes in qualifying to the next round.
Another surprising result has had to be the Manchester United Vs. VfL Wolfsburg match. With Manchester United missing a lot of their starting players, everyone would have figured that Wolfsburg would take advantage of the situation and shred United but that was definitly not the case as Michael Owen was able to net a hat-trick for United which was more than enough to help them come out with the win defeating the German Champions, 3-1.
Here are the match results for yesterday’s UEFA Champions League matches. Click to continue to watch the highlights of the matches.
Juventus – 1 VS. Bayern Munchen – 4
Maccabi Haifa FC – 0 VS Bordeaux – 1
Besiktas JK VS. CSKA Moskva – 2
VfL Wolfsburg – 1 VS. Manchester United – 3
FC Zurich – 1 VS. AC Milan – 1

Good Morning all, as we await the start of the UEFA Champions League matches this afternoon which would have some exciting matches, here are some of the latest news I have come across to get your day started off on the right foot. Feel free to share your thoughts on the following in the comments section below. (Click to continue to read on the following topics I will be listing).

Manchester United defender ‘Nemanja Vidic’ has been listed out of Manchester Uniteds next match-up against Budesliga side VfL Wolfsburg as he is still sick from a recent ‘Flu Bug’ that already sat him out of United’s last match against West Ham on Saturday. Now Manchester United will only a one 1st team defender as ‘Wes Brown’ and ‘Gary Neville’ both will be out as they were injured in their last game and Rio Ferdinand, John O’Shea and Johnny Evans also will not be playing in the match. The only 1st team defender that will be able to play is French-man Patrice Evra.
Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson has already made it known that he might be playing midfielder Michael Carrick in the central defense and also will maybe start Darren Fletcher in the back as well. But in addition to their defensive problems, Sir Ferguson has also made it known the possibility of leaving his starter strikers Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov at home meaning that his other options would be starting Michael Owen and Danny Welbeck as his only strikers for this match.
With all the problems Manchester United are facing and with VfL Wolfsburg unbeaten home streak this season, the task for Manchester United to come out victorious and finish on top of the league table seems un-manageable but also will have a chance finishing on top with Besiktas losing to CSKA Moscow. Paul Scholes is one player from United who feels this will not be easy for United to finish on top of the league table and went on to state the following :
“This was one of the toughest groups,” he said. “We had to go to Moscow, which is always difficult, especially on a plastic pitch, and it is the same in Turkey, yet we managed to win both games. CSKA and Besiktas went on to prove at Old Trafford that they are very capable teams and, when you take into account Wolfsburg are the German champions, we did well to qualify as early as we did. We want to win the game and finish top of the group. How much difference that makes to who we get in the next round, I am not too sure. There are lots of good teams at that stage of the tournament.”
Think Manchester United still have a chance of winning the game against VfL Wolfsburg and finishing on top of the league table? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Souleymane Diawara, Marseille defender, has stated his apologies to Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo for his tackle on him that sidelined Ronaldo for 2 months with an ankle injury. The tackle occurred on September 30th part of a Champions League match, and you can definitely notice the frustration in Diawara as he was sent off in that match picking up 2 yellow cards and felt that he needed to apologize to Ronaldo for his previous actions as they will meet again on Tuesday in a crucial Champions League match at ‘Stade Velodrome’. Diawara went on to state the following :
“It was in the heat of the game, nothing more, I’m not a violent player, I’ve never hurt anyone, I’ll greet him and tell him that I regret (what happened) but Ronaldo is a good person, a great footballer who knows very well that I didn’t want to hurt him.”
